Invitation Wording
The age old custom was for the invitations to be sent out by
the bride's parents. Nowadays it is increasingly common for
both sets of parents or the bride and groom themselves to host
the wedding. The invitors are now usually determined by who
has the share of the wedding costs. You can expect to be offered
a choice of two types of invitation, one with more formal wording
than the other. A less formal invitation usually has the words
: 'would like you to join them' in place of 'request the pleasure
of the company of' and may, for example, state in full: 'The
reception afterwards will be at...'.
If costs are being shared, the names of both sets of parents
can appear at the head of the invitation, the bride's before
the groom's. In this case, the mention of 'daughter' would be
omitted. Nowadays It is more common for the bride and groom
to share a large proportion of the wedding costs so increasingly
they may host the wedding with or without their parents.
We have listed below some of the more usual wording choices
and also a few adaptions that are required for certain circumstances.
