As with gold, silver is difficult to replicate in print because it cannot be created from a solid colour. Silver metal relies on its reflective properties and attempting to print silver on a traditional printing press results in what usually looks like a washed out grey colour. Hot foil printing overcomes this problem by using real metal foil which is hot pressed to the card to create either lettering or design elements. Raised print thermography is another technique which creates a metallic silver effect. The thermography process allows metallic silver pigment to be added in powder form to the wet ink as it comes straight off the press. This is then heat cured to form a raised silver type. You will find that many of our designs have raised ink as standard or you can choose this option for a small additional charge during the order process.
